For a half-century following statehood in 1846, Iowa had more one-room schoolhouses than any other state in the nation—ninety-nine in Jefferson County alone. In June, the Carnegie Historical Museum is celebrating these early landmarks of education by hosting a reunion of all former students of one-room schooling. Come share your stories and reminisce about life in a country school. The reunion will be held at the Elm Grove School No. 4 located on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
